National Medical Stores is an autonomous Corporation that was established by an Act of Parliament 1993 Cap 2017. Our mandate is to procure, store and distribute medicines and other medical supplies to public health facilities.


Our Mission is “To effectively and efficiently supply essential medicines and Medical Supplies to Public Health Facilities in Uganda.”

We are now looking for competent persons who possess appropriate skills, knowledge and right attitude to fill vacant positions which have arisen as a result of our expanded mandate.  Reports to: Head of Procurement

Salary Scale: Grade 4

Job Purpose: To execute and monitor effective and efficient procurement activities including up-to-date supplier lists and timely purchases of pharmaceutical goods, supplies and non-trading stocks.



  1. To ensure timely execution and administration of contracts with suppliers in accordance with NMS procurement manual
  2. Responsible for timely and accurate preparation of reports related to procurement of pharmaceuticals, medical supplies and non-trading stock in accordance with NMS set guidelines.
  3. To Participate and provide relevant support in the procurement planning in accordance with NMS set guidelines.
  4. To ensure that the database of strategic supplies for pharmaceutical products are identified and maintained.
  5. To prepare and issue solicitation documents for pharmaceuticals to suppliers and ensure timely and affective delivery.
  6. Participate in tender (Bid) opening and evaluation in accordance with approved tender regulations and guidelines
  7. Carry out contract execution and administration to ensure timely execution of contracts for pharmaceutical products in accordance with NMS procurement manual.
  8. Identify, develop and maintain strategic suppliers for pharmaceutical products in line with NMS Procurement Manual
  9. Supervising and carrying out regular performance evaluation of subordinate staff in accordance with the NMS human resource manual.
  10. Produce timely and accurate reports related to procurement of pharmaceuticals in accordance with the corporate manual


  1. Bachelor’s Degree in pharmacy
  2. Must be registered with the pharmacy Board
  3. Must be computer literate
  4. A minimum of 3 years of relevant working experience

 NMS/2017/02: SALES ASSISTANT – PHARMACY (1 position)

Reports to: Sales & Marketing Officer

Salary Scale: Grade 6

Job Purpose: To achieve and maintain customer satisfaction by directing and controlling the processing and fulfillment of customer orders to their full satisfaction.


  1. Receiving customer orders and initiating order processing in line with set procedures.
  2. Assuring full customer order fulfillment in assigned service area and focus items.
  3. Follow up with internal stakeholders to ensure that service area requirements are fully met as hereunder:
  4. Ensuring availability and adequacy of the procurement plans for agreed items.
  5. Ensuring that proper analysis of consumption is done for agreed items.
  6. Monitor and evaluate availability, accuracy and adequacy call offs for agreed items.
  7. Prepare monthly reports for service areas.
  8. Suggest and advise SAMO on service improvements.


  1. Diploma in Pharmacy
  2. Member of Allied Health Professional Council
  3. Computer literate of Ms word, Ms Excel and Power point
  4. At least 2 years of working experience in a busy pharmaceutical setting

NMS/2017/03: DRIVER (4 positions)

 Reports to: Transport and Logistics Assistant

Salary Scale: Grade 11

Job Purpose: To drive NMS motor cars while transporting NMS staff and medicines and medical supplies to facilities as well as providing vehicle care.


  1. To maintain a record of and account for all transitions regarding the assigned vehicle mileage, fuel, service, repair costs, incidents of occurrences if any
  2. To transport and safely deliver medicines and other medical supplies to customers as per the set dispatch procedures.
  3. To supervise the loading of supplies in order to fit the vehicle in line with the set departmental guidelines.
  4. To ensure that mechanical faults are detected and reported and mileage forms filled in line with departmental guidelines.
  5. To monitor functionality of the assigned vehicle and ensure all assigned equipment are maintained and secured.
  6. To ensure adherence to health and safety guidelines at all times (to include but not limited to using safety gear).
  7. To ensure security of both assigned supplies and vehicle while in transit at all times
  8. To operate and park vehicles with maximum security for the supplies and the vehicles in order to minimize losses and damage to NMS property while in transit.
  9. To safely transport NMS staff and other official visitors as required from time to time.


  1. A valid driving permit of class CH.
  2. A clean driving track record with a minimum experience of 6 years including heavy commercial vehicles.
  3. Should be able to communicate in English.

 NMS/ 2017/ 04: TURNMAN ( 4 positions)

Reports to: Dispatch Assistant

Salary Scale: Grade 12

Job Purpose: To support drivers in providing driving services.


  1. To maintain a good understanding of the company’s diverse product base and how these products must be handled
  2. To pick-up and load supplies from collection points as directed by supervisor
  3. To maintain required delivery records
  4. To unload supplies at stores or warehouse
  5. To keep vehicle clean
  6. To be responsible for meeting and completing tasks
  7. To perform other duties from time to time as directed
  8. To help the driver change/fix tyres
  9. To guide the driver while reversing the trailer
  10. To signal to traffic while turning on road junction or corners


  1. Uganda Certificate of Education
  2. Vehicle Mechanics training is an added advantage
  3. A valid driving license is an added advantage
