Welcome to LLIN Distribution Project

The Government of Uganda, with its development partners (Global Fund) through the Ministry of Health National Malaria Control Program announced plans to  commence the second phase of the Long Lasting Insecticidal Mosquito Nets campaign in May 2023, after running a highly successful campaign in 2021 which saw more than 40 million Ugandans receive over 22 million LLINs to achieve universal coverage.  NMS has completed the 2023 LLINs distribution campaign in which 28.2 million mosquito nets were distributed to 11,070 parishes in 136 districts of Uganda between 0ctober 2022 to December 2023.

Long Lasting Insecticidal Nets (LLINs) is one of the most effective ways of preventing malaria, and it has been proven to reduce the number of uncomplicated malaria episodes in areas of high malaria transmission by half (50%). Malaria is the leading cause of morbidity and mortality in Uganda, accounting for 30-50 percent of outpatient visits at health facilities, 15-20 percent of all hospital admissions, and up to 20 percent of all hospital deaths (27.2 percent of inpatient deaths among children under five years of age)

The Ministry of Health (MoH) through the National Malaria Control Program (NMCP) is committed to elimination of malaria in Uganda, and has made considerable gains in the fight to reduce morbidity and mortality from malaria.

In a bid to achieve its objective of ensuring that 85% of the targeted population has access to an insecticide treated mosquito net, coupled with its goal to attain and sustain 85% utilization of the LLINs distributed, the ministry of Health has for the second time partnered with National Medical Stores in the Under the Net campaign as its logistical arm, with National Medical Stores taking on the storage and distribution role up to the parish level in each district across the country.

This clearly demonstrates the strides NMS has taken to achieve its mandate to procure, store and distribute essential lifesaving medicines and medical supplies to Uganda’s medical facilities and communities.

We wish to extend the utmost gratitude to every stakeholder, individuals, and or entities that lent a pair of hands to the successful completion of this campaign.

A vote of appreciation goes to MoH Leadership, NMCD/ LLINs co-ordination Secretariat, Partners, Donors, Agencies, NMS management, NMS operations Team, District & Local Government leadership, Security, Shippers, Contractors and all adhoc teams and individuals for the valuable inputs & collaboration towards the LLINs 2023 UCC.
